Alberta's New Minimum Wage
- On September 1, 2011, Alberta's general minimum wage will increase to $9.40 per hour from the current $8.80 per hour.
- At the same time, a new minimum wage of $9.05 per hour will be introduced for workers serving liquor.
- Liquor servers are defined as anyone serving liquor to customers as a regular part of their job in licensed establishments, including bartenders, waiters, waitresses, etc.
- Future increase will be based on changes to average weekly earnings and consumer prices in Alberta.
